Barbie 2 Update From Margot Robbie May Have Just Killed Any Hopes For A Sequel

Margot Robbie has a discouraging update on a potential Barbie sequel while the first film awaits its awards season chances. 

Based on the Mattel doll of the same name, the comedy proved to be the surprise smash hit of 2023, breaking multiple box office records, including the highest-grossing film of the year thus far, as well as Warner Bros.' 

highest-grossing film ever and the highest-grossing film directed by a single woman. Since its success, including defeating Oppenheimer in the viral Barbenheimer box office duel, rumors of a sequel have circulated.

Robbie was asked about a Barbie 2 during a recent interview with AP Entertainment.As seen above, the performer reveals her reservations regarding a sequel to the hit comedy,

stating that she and co-writer/director Greta Gerwig "didn't build it to be a trilogy" and is unsure what could happen in a sequel.

about being hesitant to move forward with another film because setting up a sequel would lead the creative team to "fall into a bit of a trap" in building up several follow-ups. 

Gerwig has been hesitant to make a sequel, claiming that she was "at totally zero" after putting all of her ideas into the first Barbie, but admitting that she "wouldn't want to squash anybody else's dream."
