FBI: The explosion and destruction of the Rainbow Bridge are unrelated to terrorism

The collision will now be investigated as a traffic incident by Niagara Falls police.

The FBI announced on Wednesday night that it is handing over control of the traffic investigation regarding the vehicle crash 

explosion that happened at the border earlier in the day to the Niagara Falls Police Department.

"Our investigation at the scene of the Rainbow Bridge incident has been completed by FBI Buffalo.

No explosive materials or connections to terrorism were found during the scene check, according to an official statement.

The agency's findings support what Governor Kathy Hochul of New York stated during a news conference on Wednesday night: 

 there is no proof that the collision that occurred on the American side of the Rainbow Bridge,

which unites the United States and Canada at Niagara Falls, New York, was the result of a terrorist act.
