Jets bench $44 million man Allen Lazard for Black Friday matchup with Dolphins

Zach Wilson was not the only offensive player benched by the Jets this week.

Wide receiver Allen Lazard was inactive for the Jets' game against the Dolphins on Friday, a surprise given that the Jets signed him to a four-year, $44 million contract this offseason.

In that deal, Lazard received the highest guaranteed money of any free agency wide receiver this summer, $22 million. Lazard has been a disaster in his debut season with the Jets.

In 10 starts, he has only 20 receptions for 290 yards and one score.

According to PFF, he has also dropped five passes. Lazard was signed by the Jets in March as part of their pursuit of quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Nathaniel Hackett, the offensive coordinator, was also a significant influence behind the signing of Lazard. Rodgers and Hackett had both worked for Lazard in Green Bay.

Allen Lazard is a healthy scratch agains the Dolphins.AP Maybe things would have differently for Lazard if Rodgers had not torn his left Achilles tendon four snaps into the season.

But with no Rodgers, Lazard has been a non-factor in a Jets offense that has scored just nine touchdowns in 10 games.
