Napoleon Rotten Tomatoes Scores Quietly Turn To Splats Despite Thanksgiving Box Office Surge

According to Rotten Tomatoes, Napoleon is not succeeding in winning over either the reviewers or the audiences.

Vanessa Kirby plays the role of Napoleon Bonaparte's first wife, Empress Joséphine, in the new historical epic directed by Ridley Scott.

Joaquin Phoenix plays the title character, Napoleon Bonaparte, the leader of France. With a domestic gross of $32.5 million (second only to The Hunger Games:

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) and a staggering international gross of $46.3 million, the film dominated the global box office during its Thanksgiving week release.

It grossed a total of $78.8 million globally, making it the most successful film of all time.

The Rotten Tomatoes score for Napoleon had stabilized at a lukewarm 61% from critics and 60% from audiences during the course of the Thanksgiving weekend.

Both of these scores just barely crossed the 60% barrier to be labeled Fresh. On the other hand, RT has updated the movie with new reviews from reviewers and audiences, which have discreetly transformed both ratings into a Rotten.

This comes as the movie is about to begin its second weekend in theaters. As this article is being written, the movie has received a score of 59% from critics out of 273 reviews, and it has received a score of 58% from audiences out of over 1,000 verifiable ratings.
