Robert Saleh Puts $44 Million Jets Starter on Notice After Benching

After benching New York Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard against the Miami Dolphins, Robert Saleh sent a frank warning to him.

"Allen was down, obviously my decision [to make him a healthy scratch]," Saleh said after Friday's game.

"You know, there are some things that we all need to work on, including him. He'll stay here for a long time, at least a year and a half.

He will be involved in this. I wanted to give some of the younger players some playing time. [Benching him] is a test to see if he can regain his edge and identity.

I feel he is a good football player, but I believe Allen will return sooner rather than later."Connor Hughes of SNY had tweeted that Lazard would be "inactive" against the Dolphins.

Lazard, 27, inked a four-year, $44 million contract with the Jets this offseason after leaving the Green Bay Packers.

That was the most lucrative contract signed by a wide receiver during the 2023 free agency era.

Drops (seven), penalties, and a lack of production have plagued the former Iowa State product.
