Taylor Swift Named Apple Music Artist of Year; Morgan Wallen Tops Global Songs Chart

Taylor Swift has won the Apple Music Artist of the Year award after topping the charts, going on tour throughout the globe, and releasing her own concert video.

The app released its year-end charts, which ranked the top songs of 2023, the top Shazams, and—for the first time—the songs that music lovers used Apple Music Sing to sing along to the most.

Swift broke the record for most listeners for any artist on Apple Music in a single year and was the most-listened-to musician among Apple Music subscribers.

The previous year's Artist of the Year was Bad Bunny. More than any other artist, she had 65 songs hit Apple Music's Global Daily Top 100 in the first ten months of 2023, according to a press release from the service.

Morgan Wallen's "Last Night" topped Apple's Top Global Songs list, becoming the first country song to do so since "Old Town Road" (2019).

Eleven country songs topped the list out of the 100 songs on the chart, an increase from four the previous year. Afrobeats and Mexican music are also gaining a lot of attention.

Rema's "Calm Down" is at the top of the Top 100 2023: Shazam chart, with "Rush" by Ayra Starr and "People" by Libianca rounding out the list of the year's most Shazamed songs globally.

This year, four Música Mexicana songs appear on the list for the first time ever; Peso Pluma and Eslabon Armado's “Ella Baila Sola” (No. 18) and Grupo Frontera and Bad Bunny's “un x100to” (No. 70) are the two songs that make it into the top 20.
