Walking Dead Producer Explains Daryl Dixon Spinoff's Alternate Location and Story

Daryl Dixon was supposed to take place in the Midwest, with Daryl meeting different survivors in each episode.

The original plan was to make the show episodic and focus on Daryl's adventure in a new locale, giving it a distinct format.

Setting the spinoff in France provides a new setting and enables for the development of new ideas, making it a distinct entry in the franchise.

Greg Nicotero, executive producer of Daryl Dixon, admits that Daryl almost didn't go to France. 

The new series follows Daryl after the events of The Walking Dead, when he washes up on a beach in France for unclear reasons. 

On his way back to Alexandria, Virginia, he is tasked with transporting a little kid named Laurent across the country, since he may hold the key to humanity's salvation.

However, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nicotero claimed that The Walking Dead

Daryl will meet various survivors and learn about their lives amid the apocalypse in each episode of the show.
